U.S. Space and Rocket Center Once Again Investing in Successful Membership Program

In the past few years, being a member of the U.S. Space and Rocket Center (USSRC) got you some great benefits like unlimited visits to the center, free admission to 250+ other Association of Science – Technology Science Centers and discounts in the Mars Grill and gift shop.  For some families, it was easy to overlook the benefits because they didn’t see themselves visiting the museum more than once a year.  However, in the past few months, I feel there have been some significant positive changes in the membership program that are once again adding more value and fun to being a museum member.  From new discounts for special programs like “Pour Your Heart Out” to hosting member-exclusive events, the center is on track to transition from season pass to a true living and breathing membership program.

Why are membership programs so important you ask? Museum membership is different from a season pass at a theme park in that members are often the unofficial voice and cheerleaders of the museum.  In a community where many people will fully admit the last time they visited the USSRC was when they were in high school, it is refreshing to have the support of local members who often encourage others to make a return visit. An active membership program often results in more community involvement to the benefit of the center because members feel like they have a vested interest in the success of the center.   When the USSRC holds member exclusive events and offers expanded discounts and member programs, they are showing their commitment and gratitude to their members while helping to build a strong social network of members who will help ensure the continued success and growth of the museum and programs members they relate to.

With that in mind, I encourage anyone living in North Alabama to become a member of the USSRC.  Your membership shows support to the museum and benefits educational programs that impact local children living in the shadow of the Saturn V.  There is membership plan for everyone and you will quickly see a return on your investment. Here are a few of the upcoming membership events:

  • Afterhours member-exclusive exhibit opening of “Apollo: When We Went to the Moon”
  • Member Mondays with half-price guest tickets, reserved seating for science demos, $5 movies and free popcorn and drink with movie purchase
  • One free planetarium show (March 3-9) in the brand new Intuitive Planetarium opening February 28th.

In the interest of full disclosure, I am a current lifetime member of the U.S. Space and Rocket Center and previously served as the Membership and Volunteer Coordinator at the center.  I also served as a member of the Association of Science-Technology Center’s Passport Program working group.
